Shejuti Broto was performed by unmarried girls in the evenings for a whole month, starting on the last day of Kartik to the last day of Agrahayan (mid November - mid December), in the hope of a happy, comfortable family life, a rich clever husband, a beautiful son, wealth and success for her brother etc. Her hopes and desires are expressed in very simple almost crude terms. Traditionally, this was to be observed for 4 years in succession.
