When we discovered that the rare and unique art of Chadar Badani puppetry is practically extinct amongst the Santals in Purulia, we organized a workshop for them. Som Murmu master craftsman from Birbhum was brought in as trainer or Guru-Hor. We could afford only a ten day workshop, but the basic skills and techniques were taught , much to the delight of the students. As Som Murmu kept telling his students, the final product would all depend upon the artist`s creativity.
